Agents of the US Secret Service have arrested a resident of the New York borough of Queens, accused of numerous threats to kill former American President Donald Trump if he disagrees to leave the post of leader of the United States after losing the presidential election in November 2020. On Monday, January 10, the New York Daily News reports.
It is noted that 72-year-old Thomas Welnitsky in July 2020 announced his intentions during a conversation with police officers of the Washington Capitol. He promised to buy weapons and kill the head of the White House if he "loses the election and refuses to leave." However, even after Trump's resignation, the suspect did not calm down and continued to hatch plans for reprisals.
So, on January 4, 2022, he called the Secret Service office on Long Island and left voice messages saying that he would kill Trump, as well as 12 other people who supported the former American leader, including congressmen and senators.
In November 2021, Welnitsky again contacted the Secret Service and repeated the threats.
As a result, on January 10, 2022, the man was arrested. On the same day, he will appear in federal court in Brooklyn, where he will be formally charged. Lawyer Deirdre von Dornum said that her client does not pose any danger. According to her, the man who threatened Trump tried to express his indignation in this way with "attempts to kill Lady Liberty."
Earlier, on September 15, an African-American woman Niviane Phelps from Miami pleaded guilty to making death threats against US Vice President Kamala Harris. At a hearing in the district court, the woman confirmed that she had sent her husband, who is serving a prison sentence, videos, and photos in which she threatened to kill Harris. In addition, Phelps admitted that she allegedly took $53 thousand from an unknown customer to attack the vice president 50 days after recording the videos.
The suspect was detained on April 17. The woman questioned the racial identity of Harris, who is a black American of Jamaican-Indian origin.
Then it was reported that in addition to threats, 39-year-old Phelps expressed hatred for American leader Joe Biden.
