US State Department: Russia may spread disinformation to «invade» Ukraine

The head of the press service of the US State Department, Ned Price, said that Russia could spread misinformation about unfulfilled obligations or provoke something as a pretext for further destabilization on the border with Ukraine. He said this at a briefing, Reuters reports.

Price noted that Russia may take such measures to "justify its own behavior and potentially create a pretext for the further invasion of Ukraine."

According to him, the United States expects that diplomatic contacts with Russia will continue in the coming days and that they will be effective.

Price stressed that Washington is determined to continue the dialogue with Moscow while de-escalating on the border with Ukraine.

"We clearly understand that diplomacy and dialogue can bring results only if they take place in conditions of de-escalation," he said.

Earlier, Price expressed hope that Russia will continue to participate in the diplomatic process with Western countries, and the threat of new serious sanctions against the country will remain hypothetical. This was stated by the official representative of the US State Department, Ned Price, during a briefing.
