Smoke from wildfires in the western U.S. has reached New York City
Smoke from forest fires in the western United States, in Oregon, Washington, and California, reached the East Coast and will soon cover New York, reports The New York Post, citing the senior meteorologist at Accuweather Carl Ericson.
The forecaster said smoke from the western states, passing over the Great Lakes region and Interstate I-95, which runs north-south across the East Coast, will cover New York in the morning.
“What normally would have been just a nice sunny day with blue skies will probably have a milky foggy hue,” Erickson said.
The forecaster assured that despite the fogs over the city, residents need not worry about air quality because the smoke will pass over the city too high.
“The smoke won't be at the surface. It will be very high in the atmosphere, somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 feet,” Erickson said.
Earlier in the U.S., aviation was used to fight fires in California.
