The U.S. called for stopping the Taliban offensive with airstrikes
The leader of the Republicans in the U.S. Senate Mitch McConnell called on Joe Biden's administration to unleash airstrikes on the Taliban to stop their advance in Afghanistan. This was said in a statement posted on his Twitter account.
According to McConnell, he spoke with the Afghan ambassador to the United States and discussed the deteriorating situation in the country and the humanitarian crisis.
“It's not too late to stop the Taliban from flooding Kabul. The administration must act quickly and cave into the Taliban offensive with airstrikes, provide critical support to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces in protecting the capital and prevent the city from apparently falling soon,” McConnell wrote.
If the current administration fails to act, he said, the security threat to the U.S. will clearly increase and the humanitarian cost to innocent Afghans will be catastrophic.
On August 13, the U.S. and Britain announced that they were moving additional forces into Afghanistan. They began landing in Afghanistan. Three thousand American soldiers will arrive in Kabul as early as this weekend, 14-15 August. And the British military will be helping to evacuate their fellow citizens and Afghans who have cooperated with British subjects in the coming days.
