Biden threatened a military response to the Taliban

US President Joe Biden said that the U.S. military will respond quickly and decisively to any Taliban actions that endanger embassy staff and the diplomatic mission in Afghanistan. The official statement is published on the White House website.

U.S. Embassy Evacuation

The U.S. has begun evacuating the embassy from Afghanistan. For the safety of the staff, the American leader authorized the deployment of five thousand U.S. troops, as well as an organized retreat of Afghans who were assisting United States troops and are under particular threat of a Taliban offensive.

Earlier it became known that the employees of the US embassy in the capital of Afghanistan in Kabul were instructed to start destroying secret documents, as well as objects with the state flag or logos of the American departments.

Confronting the terrorist threat

Biden also ordered military and intelligence forces to remain vigilant and counter future terrorist threats. He directed Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to support Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and others in the government as they seek to prevent bloodshed and achieve a political settlement. The head of the State Department will engage with key regional stakeholders.

The U.S. leader has named Ambassador Tracy Jacobson in charge of a nationwide effort to resettle and transport Afghan immigrants with special visas and other allies. The president added that during his 20 years in Afghanistan, the U.S. has invested nearly a trillion dollars there, trained more than 300,000 local soldiers and police, supported and equipped the country with state-of-the-art equipment.

“Another year or another five years of U.S. military presence won't change anything if the Afghan military can't or won't hold their country. And an endless American presence in the midst of a civil conflict in another country was unacceptable to me. I was the fourth president to lead the U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan. I will not shift that war to the fifth,” Biden said.

Earlier it was reported that the militants of the radical terrorist movement Taliban have taken control of about 90 percent of the territory of Afghanistan. According to the IRIB TV channel, government troops now control only Kabul and the province of the same name.
