Early parliamentary elections have been announced in Canada
Opponents of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused him of initiating early elections in his own political interests.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Sunday, August 15, that early parliamentary elections will be held in the country on September 20, CBC reports.
Canadian Governor General Mary Simon supported Trudeau's initiative to dissolve Parliament and kicked off the country's 44th federal election.
The election campaign will last 36 days, the minimum length allowed by law.
Opposition parties do not support the idea of early elections, so they urged Simon to reject Trudeau's proposal, but the Governor-General did not listen to them. Trudeau's political opponents accuse him of initiating early elections for his own political interests.
Trudeau is seeking a majority in parliament, something his Liberal party did not achieve two years ago, and now he must rely on the opposition to make decisions. Recall that the Canadian authorities are ready to accept up to 20,000 Afghan refugees who are in danger of being taken over by the Taliban.
