Amazon urged hiring cannabis-using drivers amid labor shortage

The technology company Amazon has urged its contractors not to test future truck drivers for marijuana use. This was reported by the Los Angeles Times.

According to the document, the number of job applications due to the cancellation of tests can grow by 400%. According to the company's representatives, such measures are necessary given the loss of interest of Americans in difficult and low-paid work, and in this regard, otherwise, contractors will have to increase salary costs. The letter does not specify how such statistical results were calculated.

One of the Amazon partners told the publication that a significant part of the applications for the position of the delivery driver was rejected due to a positive test for cannabis use. Now they test applicants only for the use of heavy drugs, such as methamphetamine and heroin.

Other companies have stated that they do not support the initiative of the technology giant, since the responsibility for such decisions in case of violation of the law by drivers will lie with them, and not with Amazon.

Earlier, we wrote that Americans began to quit their jobs en masse, despite the record demand for labor.
