Trump's niece revealed how important Putin's opinion was to him
Former U.S. President Donald Trump's niece, Mary Trump, shared her uncle's views on leaders of other countries in an interview with the American publication Business Insider.
According to her, Trump was "not impressed" by either French President Emmanuel Macron or German Chancellor Angela Merkel and attached more importance to the opinion of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Also more important for the American president was the opinion of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
Mary Trump added that this attitude to people is " typical of a person she has known all her life." "He praises anyone who puts himself on a pedestal. It doesn't matter how bad a person is," she said.
According to her, Trump has a tendency to ingratiate himself with despots. For example, he praised the Taliban as "good fighters" and " great negotiators." Mary quoted a frequent saying of her uncle: "There are good people on both sides."
The publication recalled how in April 2020, Trump spoke about Putin and Kim Jong-un: "I got along well with President Putin. I liked him. He liked me... (Kim Jong-un) writes me letters. I like him. He likes me."
