Xi Jinping refused to meet with Biden in person
During a telephone conversation, US President Joe Biden proposed to Chinese President Xi Jinping to hold the first face-to-face summit but was refused. This is reported by the Financial Times.
According to the publication, Xi Jinping also demanded that the United States become more friendly towards China.
"Xi Jinping apparently hinted that first, it is necessary to improve the tone and atmosphere of relations," the newspaper quotes one of its sources.
Earlier it was reported that General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, secretly called his Chinese colleagues to prevent a war.
The general was sure that Trump intended to start a war with the PRC. According to his intelligence, Beijing believed that the United States was preparing for an attack because of the tension caused by military exercises in the South China Sea.
Milley called a member of the Central Military Council of China, General Li Zocheng of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). According to the publication, during the conversation, Milley assured him that Washington would not attack the PRC.
There were two such calls in total: the first one was on October 30, 2020, four days before the US presidential election, and the next one was already during the storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters.
