Parliamentary elections have begun in Germany
In Germany, the elections to the Bundestag have begun, the polling stations opened at 08.00 local times.
About 60.4 million citizens will be able to vote. The polling stations will work until 18.00, after which the first exit poll data will be published. The first official data from the CEC will appear on the night of September 27.
The country uses a mixed electoral system that combines majority and proportional principles.
47 political associations are taking part in the parliamentary elections, while the CDU/CSU, the Social Democrats, the Greens, the Free Democratic Party, the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany, and the Left Party have a real chance of getting into the Bundestag.
After the elections, a new government headed by a new Chancellor will be formed on the basis of the distribution of mandates in the Bundestag.
