Prince Harry struggled to hold back tears during the event with the Queen
A royal biographer claims that Prince Harry struggled to hold back tears during his last official event. This was reported by the Daily Mirror.
In early March 2020, Princes Harry and William and their wives Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton joined Queen Elizabeth II for a Commonwealth Day celebration at Westminster Abbey. It was the last ceremony in which Harry and Meghan participated as senior members of the royal family.
British historian and biographer Robert Lacey, author of The Battle of the Brothers, notes that Harry, unlike his smiling wife, had a somber look. As one eyewitness told him, the prince blinked frequently, which may indicate that he was holding back tears.
The biographer believes that Harry was upset because of the booklets that were handed out to the participants of the event. They did not include a word about him and his wife, even though they had not yet left the U.K. and were still performing their duties. "It was a clear and unequivocal display of disdain, and in front of everyone," Lacey writes.
Earlier, it was reported that Meghan Markle cried before the same event. One of the authors of the book about Harry and Meghan's life, "Finding Freedom," Omid Scobie claims that she hugged her staff in tears, realizing that after her visit to Westminster Abbey, an important period in her life would end, and she would never again stand at Buckingham Palace as a senior member of the royal family.
