Delta variant may become the dominant strain of coronavirus in the world

The Indian version of the coronavirus, delta, is twice as contagious as the original strain found in Wuhan, said Soumya Swaminathan, the chief researcher at the World Health Organization.

The question and answer session was broadcast on the WHO Twitter page.

According to Swaminathan, given the speed of spread, the delta variant may become the dominant strain of coronavirus in the world.

“The good news is that most of the vaccines that are currently used in the world seem to be effective at least in preventing the severe course of the disease,” Swaminathan said.

According to the WHO, the delta coronavirus has already been registered in 92 countries around the world.
