The British singer told how he prevented the Third World War

British musician James Blunt told how he prevented a nuclear war between NATO and Russia. While serving in the army, he refused to carry out the general's order to destroy Russian paratroopers at the Pristina airfield in the Serbian autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija. This is reported by the Daily Express.

Blunt served with NATO during the Kosovo War in 1999. Once he was ordered to seize an airfield in Kosovo, but the Russians arrived there first.

"I was given a direct instruction to suppress about 200 Russians who were there. I was the commander of the detachment, behind us were the soldiers of the parachute regiment, clearly ready for battle. General Wesley Clark's direct order was to suppress the Russian military. He used a few words that seemed unusual to us. For example, the radio sounded "destroy", — said the musician.

Blunt called the situation "insane." He decided that the order had more political than the military background, so he refused to carry it out. An attack on Russian soldiers could lead to a full-fledged conflict.

Another general, Mike Jackson, came to Blunt's aid in time. He stated that he did not want his "soldiers to be responsible for the beginning of the Third World War."

"He said why don't we all calm down and just surround the airfield," the musician added.

Blunt noted that he would refuse to shoot at the Russians even under the threat of a tribunal. According to him, it was necessary to prevent an armed clash that could end in a nuclear war.

James Blunt achieved international success by releasing his debut album "Back to Bedlam" in 2004. Prior to that, he was a reconnaissance officer of the British Army's Life Guards regiment.

Now the singer is promoting his greatest hits album "The Stars Beneath My Feet". The collection of 30 songs covers James' 17-year career and includes hits such as "You're Beautiful" and "Cold". The album also includes four new songs, as well as four exclusive live performances from around the world, including at the Glastonbury Festival.
