The US President has opened a new plant of the General Motors concern in Detroit: an enterprise called GM Factory Zero will produce electric cars. The concern has high hopes for the new plant, and the solemn event in honor of the launch of production was personally attended by US President Joe Biden, who declared the assembly site open. The concern has invested $2.2 billion in the complete reconstruction of the plant, formerly known as Detroit-Hamtramck.
Joe Biden came to Michigan to personally launch production at the GM Factory Zero plant and get acquainted with all the subtleties of the modern assembly production of electric cars. At full load, more than two thousand people will work at the enterprise. The commissioning of the enterprise took place less than two years after General Motors announced the start of construction financing. So far, only one model will be put on the conveyor — the GMC Hummer EV electric pickup truck, the first deliveries of which to customers will take place before the end of this year. After that, the concern will master the production of other models on the Ultium platform.
Thanks to the new Ultium architecture, GM notes, about 80% of the assembly of an electric car does not differ from a similar process for cars with an internal combustion engine, which allows you to produce an electric car in about the same amount of working time that is required to assemble a "normal" car. The next model to enter the GM Factory Zero assembly line will be the Chevrolet Silverado electric pickup truck, which, like the GMC Hummer EV, will be built on the Ultium platform.
