The White House has asked the US Department of Defense to provide detailed information about US military exercises in Europe aimed at deterring Russia. This is reported by The Washington Post.
It is noted that the purpose of the request is to give the White House full information about US military exercises and other deterrence measures in Europe so that new missions can be evaluated and planned in the context of past actions. Most of the exercises in Europe are focused on defending against Russia, but the request, which has not been previously reported, is also related to other US military actions on the continent.
The publication also notes that experts have expressed concern that some US military missions in the region have become too provocative. At the same time, sources in the US administration note that the White House does not seek to reduce military exercises.
In early November, foreign media reported that the Russian military was pulling together to the border with Ukraine.
The news caused concern among some officials in the United States and Europe. So, the Pentagon said that it is monitoring the build-up of Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine.
Earlier, France and Germany warned Russia against harm to the territorial integrity of Ukraine on the background of large-scale and unusual concentration of Russian troops on the borders of the country.
