The new Suzuki SX4 has changed its name and design

The Suzuki SX4 subcompact crossover, which in the second generation became known as the SX4 S-Cross, dropped the old alphanumeric index and moved to the third generation. The model has received a new appearance, according to the manufacturer, more aggressive; it has acquired a modern multimedia system compatible with smartphones, but in Europe, it has retained a "turbocharger" with a hybrid superstructure in the form of a 48-volt starter generator and an optional AllGrip all-wheel drive. The S-Cross will have a version with a PHEV-type power plant next year.

The concept of the new Suzuki S-Cross is described as Bold, Sophisticated, Versatile, which means "bold design, modern technology, and a comfortable interior". According to the length and size of the wheelbase, the novelty corresponds to the former SX4 S-Cross, but it is higher by a symbolic five millimeters. The dominant features of the look are a glossy black radiator grille, LED headlights with three modules in each, and shaded arches expressing "firmness of character".

There are much fewer changes inside. Of the obvious ones, we can note a device with an enlarged onboard computer screen (4.2 inches) and new multimedia with a nine-inch display, which, like the old device, supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On the console between the seats, there is an AllGrip Select rotary switch with Auto, Sport, Snow, and Lock profiles, present only in all-wheel-drive versions of the S-Cross. The trunk volume is the previous 430 liters (VDA).

Two engines have been announced so far. The 1.4L DITC with a 48-volt starter generator is assigned as the base in Europe, helping the internal combustion engine during acceleration and ensuring its operation in the optimal speed range. The maximum output of the unit is 129 horsepower and 235 Nm of torque (available in the range of 2000-3000 rpm). Next year, the range will be replenished with another hybrid installation, but already with charging from the network. It will include a new internal combustion engine, an MGU electric motor-generator, and an AGS "robot".

The list of available equipment of the model includes an emergency braking system, adaptive cruise control, sign recognition function, lane keeping, rear cross-traffic control, an all-around view. Sales of the new S-Cross in Europe will begin before the end of the year. Then the crossover will be delivered to Latin America, Asia, and Oceania.
