Trump explained what prevented from establishing cooperation with Russia

Former US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News that it was not possible to establish cooperation with Russia.

During a conversation with journalists, he raised the topic of refuted accusations by domestic political opponents of collusion with Moscow, which allegedly took place during the 2016 election campaign.

"But it (refutation) took two and a half years, and because of this it was very difficult to interact with some countries, especially with Russia," the former head of the White House said.

According to the politician, the smear campaign that was waged against him for most of his reign also prevented him from achieving "very good" results for the two countries.

"But you couldn't do that, because they would say about you: "Oh, he loves Russia." These people are sick," Trump added.

Earlier, Trump said that the results of the investigation by Special Prosecutor John Durham confirmed that the allegations of secret ties with Russia were a hoax from the very beginning and were invented by Hillary Clinton and the Democrats.

In 2016, when Trump won the US presidential election, documents were published about Trump's alleged ties with Russia. Later, ex-MI-6 employee Christopher Steele prepared a second "dossier" for the FBI. It was reported that the "Russian dossier of Trump" was helped by a Russian woman.

In April 2019, US Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller published a report on Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election — Moscow allegedly interfered in the American electoral process, but these hypotheses could not be confirmed. Russia has always stressed that it is not involved in election interference.
